Ingredients

  • 28 ounces tomatoes, whole
  • 1/4 cup parmesan cheese, grated
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 - onions, finely chopped
  • 4 - garlic cloves, crushed
  • 7 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1/2 cup red wine, optional
  • 1 - green bell pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano

How To Make herbed parmesan spaghetti sauce

  • Step 1
    Heat oil in a large saucepan set over medium heat.
  • Step 2
    In a medium sized saucepan set over medium heat add whole tomatoes and herbs and spices with tomato sauce, parmesan and sugar in a medium sized saucepan set over medium heat.
  • Step 3
    Break up tomatoes with a spoon as you stir.
  • Step 4
    Simmer, uncovered for 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Saute for 2 minutes.
  • Step 6
    Add remaining ingredients.
  • Step 7
    Cover and bring to a boil, stirring often.
  • Step 8
    Then, reduce heat and simmer, stirring often for at least 5 minutes.
