Ingredients
- 4 pounds ground beef chuck
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 4 medium onions, finely chopped
- 4 cans tomato paste, 6 ounces each
- 4 - garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon mixed pickling spice
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 - freshly ground pepper
How To Make greek-style meat sauce

Step 1Using a large frying pan, brown meat in 1 tablespoon olive oil until it loses its pink color.

Step 2Transfer to crockery pot.

Step 3Add remaining olive oil to pan.

Step 4Saute onions until glazed.

Step 5Transfer to crockery pot.

Step 6Add tomato paste, garlic, pickling spice, (put in a tea ball or tie in a cheesecloth bag), wine, salt and pepper.

Step 7Cover.

Step 8Cook on low 8 hours.

Step 9Stir once or twice.

Step 10Cool slightly.

Step 11Ladle into freezer containers, or serve hot.

Step 12Makes about 3 quarts.

Step 13NOTE: This meat sauce is great for various dishes: spaghetti, moussaka, and the greek mararoni dish, Pastitsio.

Step 14It is also good spooned over tacos or ladled inside avocado half shells.

Step 15This recipe makes a large quantity and freezes well.
