extra tangy tartar sauce

My friend knows I like to collect recipes, and she gave me this one she cut out of the newspaper.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup mayonnaise (light is ok)
  • 2 tablespoons minced shallot (in a pinch onion is ok)
  • 3 tablespoons capers, drained and minced
  • 2 tablespoons minced cornichons or any sour pickles
  • 2 tablespoons parsley, finely minced
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar or to taste
  • 1 pinch salt, to taste
  • 1 - 2 dashes hot pepper sauce (optional)

How To Make extra tangy tartar sauce

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients except sugar, salt, and hot sauce (if using). Taste and add pepper, sugar, salt, or hot sauce to your desire.
  • Step 2
    Let chill for at least an hour to blend flavors before serving.
  • Step 3
    NOTE - I've used dried, minced shallots and let the mixture chill overnight to make sure shallots have softened.
