Ingredients
- 1 cup white onions, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, chopped (large)
- 2 cups Dr. Pepper soda
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon chipotle purée
- 1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, or to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)
How To Make dr. pepper bbq sauce

Step 1In a saucepan over medium heat, add onions, garlic, and Dr. Pepper. Simmer until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.

Step 2Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce thickens, 30 minutes.

Step 3Using an immersion blender, process until the mixture is smooth.

Step 4Allow to cool to room temperature before pouring it into a container and transferring to the fridge for a couple of days before using. Makes 2 cups.
