Ingredients For dr. pepper bbq sauce

1 cwhite onions, finely chopped

2 clovegarlic, chopped (large)

2 cDr. Pepper soda

1 cketchup
-
1/2 cbrown sugar, packed

2 Tbspwhite vinegar

1 TbspWorcestershire sauce

1 Tbspchipotle purée
-
1/2 tspliquid smoke
-
1/2 tspfreshly ground black pepper, or to taste (I always use mixed peppercorns)
How To Make dr. pepper bbq sauce

1In a saucepan over medium heat, add onions, garlic, and Dr. Pepper. Simmer until the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.

2Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer until sauce thickens, 30 minutes.

3Using an immersion blender, process until the mixture is smooth.

4Allow to cool to room temperature before pouring it into a container and transferring to the fridge for a couple of days before using. Makes 2 cups.
