Blue Ribbon Recipe
Homemade pickles are delicious on a burger, a sandwich, or even just to munch on. We loved the pleasant, tart taste of these. They're crunchy, sweet, and sour. You taste a slight hint of apple cider vinegar. Easy to make, these bread and butter pickles will be a staple in your fridge. The longer they sit in their juices, the better they get.
If you can't find pickling cucumbers, buy 8 whole cucumbers, about 7-8 inches each, and cut in half.
Wash cucumbers well.
Trim off ends as well as any bad spots or marks.
Slice paper-thin. A mandolin works well.
Wrap the pickling spices in a cheesecloth.
Mix all pickling ingredients together. Bring to a boil
Bring to a boil and boil exactly two minutes. Discard spice bag.
Fill sterilized jars with cucumbers. Pour boiling pickling over cucumbers. Strain out some of the mustard seed.
Divide equally among jars.
Seal jars and turn upside down to cool. Makes 4 pints.
