Not even sure where I happened to come across this recipe, but I was looking for a tomato sauce for my stuffed cabbage rolls. My DH said this was the only sauce he ever wanted me to use {he says that about a lot of the things I cook, LOL}. This works great for cabbage rolls, stuffed green peppers, or pretty much any casserole/hotdish/goulash that needs a red sauce.

Method:
Stove Top

Ingredients

  • 1 can(s)
    8oz tomato sauce
  • 1 can(s)
    6oz tomato paste
  • 1 Tbsp
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1 tsp
    worcestershire sauce {more is not a bad thing, a teaspoon is a starting point}
  • 1 can(s)
    28oz tomatoes
  • 1-3
    whole bay leaves

How to Make Best Ever Tomato Sauce

Step-by-Step

  1. Mix all together and cook out the flavor of the canned tomato products.
  2. Can cut a carrot into sticks & replace the brown sugar. Adds a deeper richer flavor & tends to stick/burn less than the sugar does. Tastes great too if you want to eat the softened cooked carrot.
  3. Bay leaves can be ground up in a spice/coffee grinder & added to the sauce in place of the whole leaf(s).
