I have been getting into my Asian cooking phase… it happens every year around this time. I do stir-fry recipes, rice, veggies, shrimp… whatever. I have two sauces that I use. One is a really spicy stir-fry sauce that I have already posted. This one is a bit more on the mellow side, with notes of sweet and sour. It is crazy easy to put together, and is so yummy. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 1/4 cup hoisin sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sushi vinegar, or rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon tamari sauce
  • 1 pinch white pepper, freshly ground

How To Make asian essentials: sweet/sour sauce

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
I prefer sushi vinegar for this recipe, because it has a bit more kick to it. And the addition of the white pepper gives it just a hint of sweet heat.
  • Step 3
If you have never had the opportunity to use a sauce like this, just remember that it is a heavy sauce, and you will probably need less than you think to achieve the desired results. As with all things: Practice makes perfect.
  • Step 4
Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 5
Add all the ingredients to a saucepan over medium heat.
  • Step 6
Allow the ingredients to simmer for one quick minute.
  • Step 7
Remove from the heat, and allow to completely cool.
  • Step 8
Add to a non-reactive jar, with a good seal, and then place in the fridge until needed.
  • Step 9
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • So yummy
    Step 10
Use where you want an Asian influence… I love it on shrimp. Enjoy.
  • Step 11
Keep the faith, and keep cooking.
