asian essentials: east meets west steak sauce

I call this an Asian steak sauce, because I believe that it works so well with beef, and gives the steak a hint of Asian flavor. I played about with the ingredients until I achieved a good balance between the sauce and the beef. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 1 tablespoon grapeseed oil, or other non-flavored oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup dry sherry
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1/3 cup tamari sauce, or liquid aminos
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 2 teaspoons ginger powder
  • 1 tablespoon sweet butter, unsalted
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 3
    Add the ginger powder, sherry, tamari sauce, tomato paste, coconut sugar, and water, to a bowl, and whisk together.
  • Step 4
    Add the oil to a saucepan, over medium heat.
  • Step 5
    Add the garlic, and cook until fragrant, 30 seconds.
  • Step 6
    Add the liquid ingredient, and simmer for about 20 minutes.
  • Step 7
    Take off heat and whisk in the butter, and sesame oil.

    Use the sauce on a nice grill steak or other beef. Enjoy.
