If you have not figured it out yet, I like to make as many things from scratch as possible; especially, sauces, and soup bases. There are several reasons: 1. They are better for you. 2. They do not contain any unwanted chemical preservatives. 3. You can adjust them to suit your own tastes. I love drizzling this sauce over a big bowl of ramen noodles. So, you ready… Let’s get into the kitchen.

Ingredients

  • PLAN/PURCHASE
  • 4 tablespoons organic tamari sauce
  • 4 tablespoons sake
  • 4 tablespoons mirin
  • 2 tablespoons rice wine vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon arrowroot powder
  • 4 tablespoons coconut sugar, light variety
  • OPTIONAL ITEMS
  • - ginger root, finely grated
  • - red pepper flakes, for heat
  • - baked garlic, for depth
  • - sesame seeds, or oil

How To Make oriential essentials: the ultimate teriyaki sauce

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
    Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 3
    Chef’s Note: This recipe will make two cups of teriyaki sauce. If that is a bit much, just cut the recipe in half.
  • Step 4
    Add the tamari, sake, mirin, and rice wine vinegar to a saucepan.
  • Step 5
    Whisk in the arrowroot powder.
  • Step 6
    Add the sugar, and set the heat to medium-low.
  • Step 7
    Chef’s Note: If you are using any of the optional items, add them in now.
  • Step 8
    Continue to stir, until the mixture comes to a simmer.
  • Step 9
    Remove from the heat, and allow to cool.
  • Step 10
    Place into a non-reactive jar, and store in the fridge until ready to use.
  • Step 11
    PLATE/PRESENT
  • Step 12
    Use in your recipes, just like you would any standard teriyaki sauce. Enjoy.
