Since I do not live in the Carolinas, I do not know if this is genuine or not. I am sure someone will be kind enough to tell me as I know BBQ sauce is pretty sacred! It is just the name of the recipe I got from my sister in law. I have tweeked it a bit from hers to suit my own tastes. It is tangy and spicy from the mustard, vinegar, and chipotle seasoning and just a bit sweet. Delicious with pork, beef, or chicken. Can use as a marinade too. My photo.

How To Make carolina bbq sauce

  • Step 1
Add all ingredients except butter in a heavy saucepan. Stir to combine.
  • Step 2
Cook on very low heat for about 15 minutes stirring occassionally.
  • Step 3
Add butter cut into a few pieces and stir until melted and combined. Let cool to room temperature before serving so flavors can develop.
  • Step 4
Add hot sauce or more chipotle if you would like more heat. Do not omit the step with the butter. It gives the sauce a sheen and richness.
