strawberry preserves

I was going through one of my recipes boxes and found this. It is written on a small piece of memo paper dated 1960. I made some this week and are they good.

Ingredients

  • - 4 cups strawberries
  • - 4cups sugar
  • - 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • - jars and lids

How To Make strawberry preserves

  • Step 1
    Cap and wash strawberries.
  • Step 2
    Put in an enameled or stainless pan with the vinegar.
  • Step 3
    Boil one minute with lid on pan.
  • Step 4
    Add sugar and cook for 30 minutes or until preserves are as thick as you wish. No lid please and cook on medium heat or lower. Stir often to keep from sticking or bubbling over.
  • Step 5
    Put in clean jars and seal.
  • Step 6
    Four cups of strawberries makes approximately 4-5 pints of preserves.
