Saucy Cranberry Sauce
addendum: Next time for our family I will leave out the orange zest.
1bag fresh cranberries
1cranberry jelly ( ocean spray)
1granny smith apples
1 1/2 csugar
8grates of lemon zest
1 Tbsplemon juice
8grates of orange zest
1/2 corange juice
2-3 pkgplain gelatin
How to Make Saucy Cranberry Sauce
- Stir well
cook for 3 hours. (I'm not sure on this yet.. I will up date when it gets done.
It may to be thickened with gelatin.
To do that,
Soften the gelatin by placing the gelatin in ¼ cup cold water for 5 minutes.
Microwave the gelatin on high for 30 to 75 seconds until it is a clear liquid. It will not set if it is cloudy. Start out at thirty seconds and go from there, then mix into the warm relish mixing well. Chill to set. One caution, I have read that if you cook the gelatin too long, it will become stringy.
- I have added two packets of unflavored gelatin and it is still not quite as firm as the canned cranberry sauce, but it taste delicious.
It turned out nicely firm, but not too firm. It takes wonderful.
I am tempted to add a half of a teaspoon of chipotle powder, or some Thai chili paste for a little bit of heat.
