family favorite jam recipe
My daughter and I discovered how to make this jam and I think neither of our homes are ever without fresh jam now. It is easy, takes very few ingredients and is absolutely delicious. If you like a more tart jam, double the lemon juice as we enjoy it on the sweet side.

How To Make family favorite jam recipe
-
Step 1Rinse and prepare fruit. Peach Jam: Make a small x with your knife on the bottom of the peach then drop it into a pot of boiling water for about 2 minutes or until the the skin where the x is starts to peel away from the fruit. Cool. Remove peel. Cut into chunks no bigger than an inch. Strawberry Jam: Remove tops and cut into chunks no bigger than a half inch. Raspberry Jam: Make sure all leaves and stems are remove.
-
Step 2Place fruit into a pot cover with sugar and drizzle the lemon juice.
-
Step 3Stir everything around to make sure it is covered with sugar.
-
Step 4Let sit for about 20 minutes.
-
Step 5How big of chunks you want in your jam on determines what you do next. For bigger chunks I just use a potato masher before and during cooking. For small bits I put the mixture into my Ninja and tap it a couple of times until it is the way I want it. No further action is needed while cooking.
-
Step 6Put everything back into the pot if you chose to use the Ninja or a blender.
-
Step 7Place pot on stove over medium low heat and stir until the sugar is completely melted.
-
Step 8Turn the burner up to medium.
-
Step 9Bring to a simmer and stir with a metal spoon not contanstly but frequently, every couple of minutes.
-
Step 10As it simmers I prepare a sterilized mason jar, lid and jar funnel.
-
Step 11At around 20 minutes you should notice a difference in the way it looks. When it becomes a little darker and starts to thicken, see if the liquid is coating your metal spoon when you dip it. Times vary depending on the fruit so 20 minutes is an approximate guide line. It could take less or more. Its more about the spoon being coated than the clock. If using a candy thermometer the temperature should be about 220°.
-
Step 12Once it coats the spoon remove it from the heat and carefully pour it in the jar using the jar funnel. Be careful; it is really hot.
-
Step 13Place the jar lid on the top but don't tighten the ring. Leave it loose for now.
-
Step 14Once the jam cools to room temperature tighten the lid and place it in the fridge so it can finish firming up. The time for this varies due to the size of jar you choose to use.
-
Step 15Store in the fridge.
