Can it be any easier? To cut down on some of the sugar try Splenda's brown sugar instead of regular brown sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds jonathan or laura red apples, peeled, cored, quartered
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

How To Make apple butter

  • Step 1
    Place apples and cider in a large stock pot. Cover and bring to a boil over med-hi heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in sugars, spices and lemon juice. Simmer an hour, until very thick. For easy spreading, it should be of a very smooth consistency.
  • Step 2
    If freezing, pour hot apple butter into freezer containers, leaving 1/2" headspace. Cover and freeze.
