- 2 pounds jonathan or laura red apples, peeled, cored, quartered
- 1 1/2 cups apple cider
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
How To Make apple butter

Step 1Place apples and cider in a large stock pot. Cover and bring to a boil over med-hi heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in sugars, spices and lemon juice. Simmer an hour, until very thick. For easy spreading, it should be of a very smooth consistency.

Step 2If freezing, pour hot apple butter into freezer containers, leaving 1/2" headspace. Cover and freeze.
