Can it be any easier? To cut down on some of the sugar try Splenda's brown sugar instead of regular brown sugar.

Ingredients

  • 2 lb
    jonathan or laura red apples, peeled, cored, quartered
  • 1 1/2 c
    apple cider
  • 1/2 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp
    allspice
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice

How to Make Apple Butter

Step-by-Step

  1. Place apples and cider in a large stock pot. Cover and bring to a boil over med-hi heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Stir in sugars, spices and lemon juice. Simmer an hour, until very thick. For easy spreading, it should be of a very smooth consistency.
  2. If freezing, pour hot apple butter into freezer containers, leaving 1/2" headspace. Cover and freeze.
