1Cup Granulated Sugar
1Cup Brown Sugar
Cinnamon , nutmeg , cloves and salt.
Pour this mix over apples in the crock-pot (DONT STIR IN! Just leave it on top)
Cover with lid
3Turn on the crock-pot to low and cook apples for 1-2 hours then gently stir in the sugar mixture to coat the apples. Leave it and forget it and let it cook for the next 8-9 hours or overnight.
4After letting your apples cook for 10-plus hours take off the lid and stir.
Don't worry your mixture will be very dark and should be cooked down by half.
Stir in Lemon juice and vanilla .
Taste for sweetness, if needed add an additional 1/2 cup each of the sugars.
5Let apple butter continue to cook for 1-2 more with the lid off to absorb more liquid and make the apple butter thicken more.
6At the end of the cooking time smooth the apple butter with a blender.
Spoon into clean pint jars , cover with lid and ring.
*Be sure to follow recommended instructions for canning.
