of breakfast sausage , any kind
5 Tbsp
of crisco shortening (total amount in the skillet
5 Tbsp
all purpose flour
3 - 4 c
salt and pepper to taste

How to Make Sausage Gravy


  • 1break up and brown the sausage in a deep skillet.using a slotted spoon remove the sausage and add 4-5 tablespoons of crisco to the pan, now add equal amount of flour, whisk, whisk, whisk, do not brown, but do wait a few minutes to cook out the flour taste..(make sure your burner is not to high..
  • 2add milk 1 cup at a time, whisk, whisk, whisk, as the gravy thickens you add more milk, until it gets to the thickness you like, add the sausage back in and salt and pepper to taste...
  • 3spoon over biscuits, or toast, or bread, or fried potatoes....for a quick dinner you can use hamburger and spoon over mashed potatoes..
