This sauce is good over any kind of meat and poultry.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash black pepper
  • 2/3 cup lower-sodium beef broth

How To Make onion herb sauce

  • Step 1
    In a small saucepan, melt the butter over moderate heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until onion is tender.
  • Step 2
    Stir in flour,thyme,salt and pepper. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, for 10 minutes or until flour is browned. Important not to burn just brown.
  • Step 3
    Add the beef broth. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture starts to thicken.Cook and stir for 2 minutes more or until thickened. If you prefer a smoother sauce, strain through a sieve and discard the onion pulp. Serve sauce with meat and poultry. Makes 2/3 cup.
