finely chopped yellow onion
1 clove
garlic, minced
1 Tbsp
all purpose flour
1/2 tsp
dried thyme leaves
1/8 tsp
1 dash(es)
black pepper
2/3 c
lower-sodium beef broth

How to Make Onion Herb Sauce


  • 1In a small saucepan, melt the butter over moderate heat. Add the onion and garlic and cook for 5 minutes or until onion is tender.
  • 2Stir in flour,thyme,salt and pepper. Cook the mixture, stirring constantly, for 10 minutes or until flour is browned. Important not to burn just brown.
  • 3Add the beef broth. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture starts to thicken.Cook and stir for 2 minutes more or until thickened. If you prefer a smoother sauce, strain through a sieve and discard the onion pulp. Serve sauce with meat and poultry. Makes 2/3 cup.
