tamarind chutney

I love tamarind sauce for dipping Naan. I've heard that most of the small jars of tamarind paste I find at the local grocery store are pretty bad, so I have posted another recipe on how to make your own tamarind paste. This recipe is from "In Nirmala's Kitchen".

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup tamarind pulp
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar firmly packed
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 2 teaspoons cayenne

How To Make tamarind chutney

  • Step 1
    In a small bowl, combine all of the ingredients with about 2 tablespoons boiling water and whisk until the sugar is completely dissolved.
  • Step 2
    Serve warm or let cool and store in an airtight container; refrigerate until ready to use. Stir well before serving.
