This is a recipe I often make in the summer when my pear trees over produces. The recipe can easily be increased if you want to can for the winter. I also make this in the winter when I buy too many pears and they get over ripe. You can easily leave the sugar out for a low calorie version. With all the spices and sweetness of the pears you will never miss the sugar.

Ingredients

ripe pears, overly ripe work well
1 1/2 tsp
cinnamon
1/2 tsp
ginger
1/2 tsp
allspice
1/4 tsp
nutmeg
1/4 c
sugar
1/2 tsp
vanilla

How to Make Pear Butter

Step-by-Step

  • 1Peel, core and roughly chop pears.
  • 2Place in a heavy saucepan with remaining ingredients.
  • 3Cook until pears are softened and blended with spices. Stir often.
  • 4Serve warm or chilled. Will keep for several weeks in refrigerator in tightly sealed container.
