While the recipe does not state any meat or rice, I know mom served this sauce over whatever meat she chose, over a bed of rice. It was her "Chinese" style meal...she had a party and the guests sat on the floor to eat on low tables...and served this. Luckily, she shared the recipe with my stepmom, and I have it!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1/4 cup unsifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 ounces can whole mushrooms
  • 10 1/2 ounces cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 cup canned chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup orange juice concentrate, not diluted
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • - mandarin oranges, for garnish
  • NOT ON RECIPE CARD:
  • - cooked chicken or protein of your choice
  • - cooked rice of your choice

How To Make orange sauce, madeleine's

  • Step 1
    Melt butter, add flour, salt, pepper, garlic powder. Drain mushrooms and reserve liquid. Add soup, broth, orange juice, mushroom liquid, nutmeg and brown sugar.
  • Step 2
    This would all melt together to form the orange sauce.
  • Step 3
    Mom served this sauce over protein and rice. Garnish with mandarin oranges if desired.
