favorite ranch dressing from scratch

I've been using this recipe for years and have tweaked to our liking. Original recipe had 1/2 tsp each of parsley and chives and we felt that let the dill overpower the whole. I also added the parmesan cheese for a bit of texture and smoothness of the dresing. If after chilling the dressing is too thick to your liking, whisk in some milk or buttermilk to thin it out. This also makes a fantastic veggie dip.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon chives, dried
  • 1 teaspoon parsley flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon dill, dried
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese, grated (optional)

How To Make favorite ranch dressing from scratch

  • Step 1
    Mix together mayonnaise and sour cream. You may substitute 1 C of plain yogurt for the sour cream.
  • Step 2
    Add additional ingredients and mix well.
  • Step 3
    Cover and chill for at least 30 minutes - the longer, the better. Enjoy!
