St. John's Dip

Paige Nicholas

My mother taught me to make this dish when I was ten, around 1971. It's easy to put together and so far has been a hit every time I've made it. Great as an appetizer or a side dish. For a larger crowd, double and place in 9 x 13 pan.

Notes from the Test Kitchen:
This has all the flavor of a tasty burrito without the tortilla! I do believe that this would easily be a hit at any gathering.

1 lb
lean hamburger
1 can(s)
re-fried beans
1 pkg
taco seasoning mix
8 oz
sour cream
4 oz
diced green chiles
1 c
shredded extra sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 c
chopped black olives (optional)
1/2 c
chopped red pepper (optional)
1 pkg
tortilla chips

1Brown the Hamburger, over medium heat, and drain off fat.
2Add Re-Fried Beans and mix with browned hamburger till smooth.
3Mix in Taco Seasoning mix.
4Spread Hamburger mixture on bottom of 8x8 baking pan.
5Spread Sour Cream over Hamburger mixture.
6Top Sour Cream with diced Green Chile's.
7Cover Green Chile's with shredded Cheddar Cheese.
8Sprinkle the chopped Black Olives and chopped Red Pepper over the shredded Cheddar Cheese, but don't cover entirely.
9Place in Pre-heated 350° oven and bake for 20 to 30 minutes. Cheese should be melted and bubbly.
10Serve with Tortilla Chips.
