I have been serving this to family and friends for 30+ years and haven't met anyone yet that didn't like it. My Grandkids like eating the leftovers like a bowl of chili. Great served with home fried corn tortilla chips!

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 - large onion, chopped
  • 2 cans kidney beans, smashed with juice
  • 1 can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 1/2 cups hot ketchup
  • 3 tablespoons chili powder
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic, chopped
  • TOPPING
  • 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese (grated)
  • 1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can chopped black olives

How To Make hot texas dip

  • Step 1
Brown the beef over high heat until brown and crumbly. Drain excess grease, lower the heat to medium and add the chopped onion and garlic; continue to cook until the veggies are tender.
  • Step 2
Add in the beans, ketchup (if hot is not avail. I add hot sauce to taste), chili powder, salt and pepper to taste. Simmer for a a bit for the flavors to meld. I then put the mixture in a chafing dish.
  • Step 3
Mix the topping ingredients together and sprinkle over the hot mixture and allow the cheese to melt.
  • Step 4
    Serve hot with tortilla chips!
