How To Make homemade french onion dip
-
Step 1Melt butter in skillet over medium heat. Add onions, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/2 tsp pepper & cayenne & cook, stirring occasionally, until onions are translucent, about 10 minutes. Reduce heat to medium low & continue to cook until onions are golden brown, another 10 minutes.
-
Step 2Add 2 tbsp water to skillet & cook, scraping up browned bits & until water evaporates, about 5 minutes. Add remaining water & cook until onions are caramelized & water has evaporated, another 5 mintues. Remove from heat & stir in vinegar. Transfer to a bowl & let cool, 10 minutes.
-
Step 3Add sour cream & mayonnaise to onion mixture; stir to combine. Season with salt & pepper & refrigerate 1 hour for flavors to marry. Enjoy!
