Almost no-fail recipe! You have to have temp. gauge if you don't know how to judge soft ball stage testing by placing a drop of mixture in glass of water. I alway have to use a candy them. that indicates soft ball stage.

Ingredients
- 4 cups sugar
- 1 1/3 cups milk
- 2 sticks butter, cold
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
How To Make caramel icing

Step 1Place 3 1/2 cups of sugar in boiler with 1 and 1/3 cups of milk and bring to boil. Put half cup of sugar in skillet and brown. Then pour the browned sugar in boiler with the boiling sugar.

Step 2Combine milk to sugar mixture and continue to boil until it has reached the soft ball stage. Remove from heat, add butter and vanilla and beat on high with mixer until it thickens. Pour on to cake before it is cold or it will turn hard.
