Ingredients

  • 9 slices bacon
  • 1 cup chopped onions
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 cup water
  • 2/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 2 quarts cooked, diced red potatoes

How To Make hot german potato salad

  • Step 1
    Fry bacon until crisp, drain and save 1/4 cup bacon drippings. Brown onion in drippings until clear (about 5 min). Mix sugar, flour, salt, pepper and celery seed. blend into onion over low heat. Gradually pour water and vinegar into onion mix stirring constantly until mix starts to boil, boil for 1 minute. Pour over diced potatoes in a 2 1/2 qt bowl. Mix in 6 slices of crumbled bacon. Cover with "wax paper" and let stand 1 hr.. To reheat, heat for 20 minutes in 325 degree oven. Garnish with bacon pieces
