This crisp, marinated sweet-and-sour slaw is a delicious alternative to creamy coleslaw. From Bon Appetit, Nov 1993.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 8 cups green cabbage, coarsely shredded (about 1/2 large head)
  • 1 cup red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
  • 1 - carrot, coarsely shredded

How To Make texas slaw

  • Step 1
    Whisk sugar, vinegar, and oil to blend in large bowl.
  • Step 2
    Add remaining ingredients and toss to combine.
  • Step 3
    Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • Step 4
    Cover tightly and refrigerate at least 4 hours, tossing occasionally. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Keep refrigerated.)
