This crisp, marinated sweet-and-sour slaw is a delicious alternative to creamy coleslaw.

  • 1/2 c
  • 1/2 c
    distilled white vinegar
  • 1/4 c
    vegetable oil
  • 8 c
    green cabbage, coarsely shredded (about 1/2 large head)
  • 1 c
    red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 c
    green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 medium
    onion, thinly sliced
  • 1
    carrot, coarsely shredded

How to Make Texas Slaw


  1. Whisk sugar, vinegar, and oil to blend in large bowl.
  2. Add remaining ingredients and toss to combine.
  3. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  4. Cover tightly and refrigerate at least 4 hours, tossing occasionally. (Can be prepared 2 days ahead. Keep refrigerated.)
