"reel" broccoli salad

This recipe is called "Reel" Broccoli Salad because my mother, Maxine Reel, was the originator of this delicious side dish. It's a family favorite, and a recipe that I make often. It's also a favorite among all of our friends, and their friends..and so on.. Hope you enjoy this recipe as much as we do~!

Ingredients

  • 1-2 pound brocolli- peeled & cut into bit sized pieces
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 1/2 pound sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 pound bacon- cooked until crisp- crumbled
  • 15 ounces mayonnaise
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons white or cider vinegar
  • - salt and pepper to taste

How To Make "reel" broccoli salad

  • Step 1
    Wash and peel broccoli, then cut into bit sized pieces. Let dry. Chop onion into small pieces. Fry bacon until crisp. Cool, and then crumble into small pieces. Cut the sharp cheddar cheese into small cubes. Add all ingredients to a large bowl. For dressing: Mix the mayonnaise, sugar, and vinegar together in a small bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour over the salad ingredients, then refrigerate for one hour..then , simply enjoy!
