My Brother made this for Thanksgiving, he used fresh cactus paddles (abt 5-6). But I use the cactus from the jars, to save alittle time, and a couple of steps. We thought both ways were great.

2 jar(s)
(30oz) of cactus, (nopalitos), drained and rinsed.
1-2 Tbsp
lime juice
2 Tbsp
olive oil
1 Tbsp
1/2-1 tsp
cider vinegar
3 Tbsp
1/2 tsp
1 can(s)
diced tomatoes, well drained
1 clove
garlic, minced
1 medium
yellow or orange bell peppers, chopped
1/2 small
red onion, sliced thin

How to Make Nopalitos Salad


  • 1Place cactus to colander,remove the pepper and onion from the jars, rinse under cold water, strain well. Set aside
  • 2In a medium bowl, whisk lime juice, oil, water, vinegar, sugar, oregano together.
  • 3Slice the red onion into thin slices, drain the tomatoes well.
    Combine the cactus, onion,tomatoes and the dressing together and mix well.
