creamy cucumber salad - north german version
My mom always made cucumber salad like this. Known as Gurken Salat in German! My mom always used mayo. If you want to take the time, you can sprinkle the cuke/onions with salt and let sit for an hour or so and drain off the excess liquid before adding dressing. I'm never that patient.

Ingredients
- 1 cucumber
- 1/2 cup white or red onion, thinly sliced
- 1/4 cup sour cream, plain yogurt or light mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons vinegar
- 1/2 teaspoon sugar or Splenda (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried dill
- salt and pepper, to taste
How To Make creamy cucumber salad - north german version

Step 1Peel cucumber, if desired. Thinly slice into a bowl. Thinly slice onions, cut slices in half, and add to cucumbers.

Step 2Mix together sour cream, vinegar, sugar/Splenda, and dill.

Step 3Pour over cukes and onions. Taste for and adjust salt and pepper.
