creamy cucumber salad - north german version

My mom always made cucumber salad like this. Known as Gurken Salat in German! My mom always used mayo. If you want to take the time, you can sprinkle the cuke/onions with salt and let sit for an hour or so and drain off the excess liquid before adding dressing. I'm never that patient.

1/2 cwhite or red onion, thinly sliced

1/4 csour cream, plain yogurt or light mayonnaise

2 Tbspvinegar

1/2 tspsugar or Splenda (optional)

1/2 tspdried dill

salt and pepper, to taste
How To Make creamy cucumber salad - north german version

1Peel cucumber, if desired. Thinly slice into a bowl. Thinly slice onions, cut slices in half, and add to cucumbers.

2Mix together sour cream, vinegar, sugar/Splenda, and dill.

3Pour over cukes and onions. Taste for and adjust salt and pepper.
