We love coleslaw, green salad, and pasta salads. One of our favorite dressings to use is made by Marzetti. Their sweet and sour dressing is delicious, as is their coleslaw dressing. But it's expensive, so we started to make our own, and this is what we have landed on. It's a sweet dressing that works on coleslaw, a garden salad, and our homemade deli pasta salad. The cost to make this is minimal. This can be cut in half or doubled. For a fun slaw, you can do half green cabbage and half purple cabbage. English cucumbers make a nice addition, too.

Ingredients

  • DRESSING
  • 1/4 cup real mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon celery seed, more or less to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried minced onion
  • 1/8 teaspoon dried or fresh dill weed, more or less to taste
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper, more or less to taste
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • SLAW
  • 1 head cabbage, small to medium
  • 1 - 2 medium carrots, peeled

How To Make coleslaw with sweet dressing

  • Step 1
Prepare the dressing. Whisk the mayonnaise and vinegar until well blended.
  • Step 2
Add remaining ingredients and whisk until well combined and the sugar has dissolved. Using an immersion blender will make this job a bit easier.
  • Step 3
Pour into a glass container, cover, and chill for at least 1 hour before using.
  • Step 4
Shred the cabbage to the desired thickness and place it into a large bowl.
  • Step 5
Grate the carrots and add to the cabbage. If using any other vegetables, prepare them and add them to the cabbage mixture.
  • Step 6
Pour half of the dressing over the cabbage mixture and, using your hands or 2 spoons, mix until the dressing has coated the mixture. If more dressing is needed, add it a little bit at a time. Store unused dressing in an airtight container.
  • Step 7
Transfer the slaw to a container, cover, and chill. NOTE: Dressing can be used as a green salad dressing or even on a pasta salad.
