I was looking for a good slaw recipe. I am not a real fan of mayonnaise in slaw, so was looking for something different. This fit the bill. We enjoyed it and hope you do too. I don't remember where I found the recipe. Too long ago.

medium head cabbage, cored and shredded

medium onion, finely chopped

red bell pepper, finely chopped

green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 c
sugar
1 c
vinegar
1 tsp
salt
1 Tbsp
celery seed
1 tsp
sugar
1 tsp
prepared mustard
3/4 c
vegetable oil

How to Make Amish Slaw

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a large bowl, toss together the cabbage, onion, bell peppers and 1 cup sugar.
  • 2In a small saucepan, combine the vinegar, salt, celery seed, 1 teaspoon sugar, mustard and oil. Bring to a boil, and cook for 3 minutes. Cool completely, then pour over cabbage mixture, and toss to coat.
  • 3Coat and refrigerate overnight for best flavor.
