My grandma has made this for just about every holiday meal. I refuse to eat any other apple salad because hers is the best.

4-5 small
red apples (diced)
2 c
purple grapes (seedless)cut in half
20 oz
can of crushed pineapple
1-2 c
chopped pecans
1 c
small marshmallows
3 Tbsp
lemon juice
1/4 tsp
egg yolks
2 Tbsp
2 Tbsp
1 1/2 c
pineapple juice( use juice from can of crushed pineapple)
1 c

How to Make Grandma's Apple Salad


  • 1Mix pineapple juice, lemon juice, salt, flour, butter, egg yolks(mix these in while mixture still cool or you will end up with scrambled eggs),and sugar together in a small sauce pan. Cook over low heat until thick.(Not quite pudding thick)Stir constantely
  • 2Cool mixture in refridgerator until completely cool stirring occasionally. Then mix in 1 container of cool whip. While mixture cools cut up fruit.
  • 3Pour mixture over fruit and nuts and refridgerate until ready to serve.
