My dad always made this at Thanksgiving.

This easy-to-make fruit salad can be thrown together in a snap. We liked the crunch of the chopped pecans. Shredded coconut adds a bit of texture. The sweet cherry juice brings the flavors together. It can be served with a dollop of whipped cream, but it's not necessary. This is a sweet fruit salad already.

Ingredients For daddy's holiday best fruit salad

  • 1 can
    fruit cocktail, in syrup (15.25 oz)
  • 1 can
    pears (15.25 oz)
  • 1 can
    cling peaches (15 oz)
  • 1 can
    crushed pineapple (20 oz)
  • 1 lg
    red delicious apple, peeled
  • lemon juice
  • 1 lg
    banana, optional
  • 1 lg
    naval orange
  • 1 bottle
    small maraschino cherries (10 oz)
  • 1 c
    chopped pecans
  • 1 1/3 c
    shredded coconut
  • whipped cream, optional

If using the banana, we recommend adding the slices to the fruit salad right before serving.
  • Drain the canned fruit.

    Drain syrup from canned fruits and set aside.
  • Chop apples and coat in lemon juice.

    Chop apple into medium dice and coat with lemon juice to stop browning.
  • Slice bananas and coat in lemon juice.

    Slice banana if using. Coat with lemon juice to keep it from browning.

  • Drain the cherries and cut them in half.

    Drain juice from cherries and set aside. Halve the cherries.
  • Add ingredients to a bowl.

    Mix fruit cocktail, pears, peaches, oranges, apples, bananas, pineapple, pecans, cherries, and shredded coconut.
  • Add cherry juice.

    Add about 1/4 cup of cherry juice.
  • Refrigerate.

    Refrigerate before serving. Serve with Cool Whip or Whipped cream.
