One of my daughter's favorites.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 8 ounces crushed pineapple, drained - reserve juice
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1 - egg
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 8 ounces frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1/2 cup coarse chopped walnuts
  • 4 medium granny smith apples, pared and chopped

How To Make apple salad

  • Step 1
    In small saucepan, mix sugar, pineapple juice, flour, and apple cider vinegar, over low-medium heat, stirring often.
  • Step 2
    In bowl, beat egg. Add a bit of the mixture in the saucepan to the beaten egg to temper it. Pour egg into mixture in saucepan, stirring constantly until thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Step 3
    Pour the mixture from the saucepan into bowl and refrigerate until cool.
  • Step 4
    When cool, fold in the container of whipped topping, nuts and the apples. You may sprinkle addtional nuts on top, if you wish.
