1/2 c. boiling water
2 c. all-purpose flour
2 c. granulated sugar
1/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs
2 tsp. baking soda
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. maple extract (optional)
8 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 stick unsalted butter, softened
1 lb. powdered sugar
Dash of salt
1 tbsp. half and half or whole milk, plus more if needed for thinning
