1/4 cup liquid smoke (hickory flavor - look for it by the barbecue sauces)
2 medium yellow onions, sliced thin
1 cup apple cider
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard

1/2 cup pan broth (see instructions below)
1 1/2 cups apple cider
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
2 tablespoons tomato paste
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 tablespoon hot sauce (such as tabasco)
1 teaspoon hickory liquid smoke
1/2 teaspoon paprika
