1 cup old-fashioned oats, or use quick oats

1/3 cup molasses, such as Grandma's
•
2 teaspoons salt

1 tablespoon butter

1/2 cup milk, warmed to about 105° (if using cake yeast, warm to 95°)*

2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
•
2 teaspoons granulated sugar

4 1/2 cups all-purpose flour plus approximately 1/2 to 1 cup more for kneading
