Old Fashion Cranberry Nut Bread

This is one of our families favorite breads. We make this every fall when the cranberries are being harvested.

1 C Cranberries (fresh or frozen)
1 C Sugar
3 C Sifted flour
4 tsp Baking powder
1/2 tsp Salt
1/2 C Coarsely chopped walnuts (or pecans)
Grated rind of 1 orange
1 Egg (lightly beaten)
1 C Milk
2 tsp Melted butter (or margarine)

How to Make Old Fashion Cranberry Nut Bread


  • 1Preheat oven to 350 F. Put cranberries through coarse blade of meat grinder or food processor and mix with 1/4 cup of sugar. Sift remaining sugar with the flour, baking powder, and salt; mix in the nuts and orange rind. Lightly beat egg with the milk and melted butter and stir into the flour mixture. Fold in the cranberries. Spoon into a buttered 9x5x3 inch loaf pan and bake about 1 hour or until loaf pulls slightly away from the side of the pan and is springy to the touch.Cool upright in the pan 10 minutes, then turn out on a wire rack and cool before slicing.
