I love this detergent. You can adjust the amounts to make the detergent more concentrated if you like.

*I usually stir it pretty often, if you don't it will get chunky*

*Add 1 ounce of essential oil to add any smell of your choice*

  • 1/3 Bar
    fels naptha or other type of soap
  • 1/2 c
    washing soda (arm and hammer)
  • 1/2 c
    borax powder
  • 1 Large
  • 3-4
    empty laundry detergent containers

How to Make Homemade Laundry Detergent


  1. Grate the soap and put it into a saucepan.
  2. Add 6 cups of hot water and stir until the soap thoroughly melts.
  3. Add the washing soda and borax and stir until it is dissolved.
  4. Remove from heat.
  5. Add 4 cups of hot water to your bucket and add your soap mixture. Stir.
  6. Add 1 gallon plus 6 cups of water and stir.
  7. Let it sit for 24 hours so it can gel.
