Ostara Dyed Eggs are both fun for your kids to do and allows a lesson in herbs and dyes all in one. The word Ostara is just one of the names applied to the celebration of the spring equinox on March 21. The origin of the word is actually from Eostre, a Germanic goddess of spring. It's also the same time as the Christian Easter celebration, and in the Jewish faith, Passover takes place as well. For early Pagans in the Germanic countries, this was a time to celebrate planting and the new crop season.

How To Make easter / ostara natural dyed eggs

Step 1

Boil a handful of an herb of flower until the water is well colored,simmer for 30 minutes and strain. Place the water into a heat-resistant cup or bowl, stir in a tsp of vinegar to cup or small bowl. (For larger amounts use 1 tbsp vinager/1 quart liquid) Add a pinch of salt

Step 2

Allow soaking, The longer you leave the eggs in, the darker they become.
Step 3

You can also draw a pattern on your eggs first with white crayon or wax and the dye won't stick to that part showing your design.
Step 4

If you crack the shell carefully all over the egg itself will also take on the color where the cracks are. This is very pretty when peeled later.
