Ingredients
- 1 cup lard
- 1 cup crunchy peanut butter
- 2 cups quick cooking oatmeal
- 2 cups yellow cornmeal
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup ground nuts of your choice
How To Make no melt suet
-
Step 1Place lard and peanut butter into large bowl and whip until well blended. Begin adding dry ingredients a small amount at a time until combined. Soon it will become too thick and heavy for the mixer so it is then time to dig in with your hands.
-
Step 2Once all ingredients are combined begin pressing into sheet pan and chill thoroughly. When the mixture is well chilled remove from refrigerator and cut into size that will fit into your suet feeder. If you do not have a suet feeder I suggest cutting into squares about 3" x 3". You can also place this into other containers such as bowl and cups - whatever you have on hand.
-
Step 3NOTES: You can double or triple this recipe and freeze your blocks. Trust me, the birds are going to love this and want more! This suet will stay together in temperatures up to 115* in the summer months. I use it all year long and all the birds seem to love it ... as do the squirrels.
