New England Clam Chowder

INGREDIENTS
1/4 cup butter (4 tablespoons)
3/4 cup diced yellow onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 teaspoons Old Bay Seasoning
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried basil
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1 cup chicken broth
1 jar (8 ounce) clam juice (I used Snow’s Clam Juice)
4 potatoes, peeled and diced
2 cups milk
1 cup heavy whipping cream
3 cans (6.5 ounce) chopped clams, drained with the juice reserved (I used Snow’s Wild Caught Chopped Clams in Clam Juice)
cooked and crumbled bacon, optional
