"Bannock bread was a staple bread to native Americans. The use of oats are an indication that it may have originated in Acadia (now Nova Scotia), as bannock means oats, and many Acadian breads contained oats. While this recipe has been in our family for many years, I have no idea where we got it, only that it was on a handwritten, old card yellowed with age. This is a good recipe to use to teach kids how to bake, as the dough is simple to make, and is just patted into a pie plate--there is no rolling or cutting.
