1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 cups sugar

1 teaspoon baking soda

¾ teaspoon coarse salt

½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder (I used Hershey's)

1 cup water
•
2 large eggs, lightly beaten

½ cup buttermilk
•
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

Boiled Chocolate Icing (see below)
•
1 ¼ cups coarsely chopped toasted pecans (I omitted the nuts)
