turkey and dressing (southern style)
This recipe has been handed down from my grandmother to my mother and then to me. This is a tradition to have sweet potato casserole or potato salad, rolls sweet tea and desserts.

Ingredients
- 2 large pans cornbread, cooked night before
- 2 medium onions, chopped
- 6 - boiled eggs, chopped
- 3 stalks celery, chopped
- 3 slices white bread, pulled apart in small pieces
- - chicken or turkey broth to stir in
- 2 cans cream of chicken soup
- 1 can cream of celery soup
- - salt & pepper to taste
- - sage to taste (about 2 tsp.)
How To Make turkey and dressing (southern style)

Step 1Note: Take inside stuffings out of turkey and discard. Salt and pepper inside and out. Bake turkey in roaster in about 2-3 inches of water at 350 degrees for 2 1/2 to 3 hours. Mix dressing ingredients well, add salt and pepper to taste. Pour into casserole dishes. Add white turkey meat in and on top if desired.

Step 2Bake at 350 degrees until brown. (about 45 minutes to 1 hour.)

Step 3Freeze other dishes until needed.

Step 4Cornbread for dressing: 2 cups self-rising cornmeal, sifted 2 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. salt 3 eggs 2 cups buttermilk 3 Tbsp. oil Preheat the oven to 450 degrees Sift together the cornmeal, baking powder and salt. Let the batter rest while the skillet and oil are heating (about 5 minutes). Quickly pour the batter into skillet and return to oven. Bake for 25-30 minutes. Makes 1 pan of cornbread. For dressing, you need 2 large pans of cornbread made the day before you make dressing.
