Sloppy Joes

Dora Komaromi

Whenever I make this, everyone raves about it. And the leftovers are even better. I've even used the leftovers in taco salad.

Stove Top

1 lb
ground turkey or chicken
1 small
onion, chopped
1/2 - 3/4 c
catsup - enough to coat the meat without being too runny
1 Tbsp
dijon or honey dijon mustard
2 Tbsp
brown sugar, more or less to taste
1 Tbsp
worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp
chili powder
1 Tbsp
1 tsp
ground cumin
1/2 tsp
garlic powder
2 Tbsp
apple cider or rice vinegar
salt & pepper to taste
hamburger buns, whole wheat
sliced reduced-fat american cheese (optional)

1Brown meat in skillet sprayed with non-stick spray over medium-high heat. Break up meat with spatula while cooking so you don't end up with huge chunks of meat. Add chopped onion when meat is about 1/2 way browned. Saute until onions are translucent. Drain excess fat if necessary.
2Add catsup, brown sugar, mustard, chili powder, paprika, cumin, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce and vinegar, Stir to coat meat. Add salt and pepper to taste. TASTE to make sure it's not too sweet or too tart.
3Let simmer for a few minutes to combine flavors. Serve on buns with sliced cheese if desired.
