Some time ago I watched a show on Food Network where they where making these incredible sandwiches that are famous in Kentucky. Well, they looked so good I had to put it on my list to make. So, this is my version and twist on a Kentucky Hot Brown. I love roasted red peppers so I knew I had to add them. The rest of the additions are favorite items of mine and the famous Swiss cheese made here in Ohio. My husband Anthony cleaned his plate and asked for a second one. I do hope you enjoy my spin on a very famous sandwich.

How To Make downtown ohio browns

  • Step 1
Preheat your broiler or oven to 375 degrees. Cook up your peppered bacon and set aside and toast your thick slices of Italian bread. Meanwhile slice up your turkey breast and if it's not hot then saute it in a pan with a little oil. Also do the same with your roasted red peppers in another pan. Keep covered in the pans with a lid on till you assemble your sammie.
  • Step 2
Next you want to make your sauce. In a saucepan melt your butter and whisk in the flour and keep stirring for about 2 minutes. Now add your cream and milk and keep whisking till it is bubbling and begins to thicken. Now add your three cheeses and stir till melted. Add your black pepper and ancho chili pepper and remove from stove.
  • Step 3
Assemble in a baking dish your open face sammies with the toast on bottom. Add your 2 or 3 slices of turkey breast, then sliced roasted red's, now pour that amazing cheese sauce over the top. Place your 2 slices of bacon on top and broil about 3 - 5 minutes till the cheese sauce begins to get a touch of brown on it. Remove from oven and place your garnishes on top and serve immediately.
  • Step 4
This was a pic of my husbands plate 5 minutes after I served him. LOL ---He wanted another one but I said no! haha...
  • Step 5
We also had drinks in frozen mugs filled with Birch Beer from Amish Country. (one of my favorites)
  • Step 6
Ohio cheeses that I bought from Amish country --Ohio's number one produce made is Swiss cheese.
