Hubby wanted something comforting for lunch today, so I had some delicious sliced smoked turkey, tomatoes and muffins...all I needed to do was cook up some bacon and make a cheesy white sauce and this awesome plate of deliciousness was just heaven to the tastebuds. I thought he was going to lick his plate...LOL! Being from the South, this is something he had never eaten. Anyway, this is my version of the Kentucky Hot Brown Sandwich. He told me not to change a thing and this will be on the menu time and time again! Enjoy! It's awesome!

How To Make ~ kentucky hot brown muffins ~ my rendition

  • 1
In a small to med saucepan, over medium heat - melt butter and whisk in the flour. Continue cooking and stirring for a few minutes or until mixture begins to smell nutty.
  • 2
Slowly whisk in the milk and keep stirring to insure no lumps. I used a little over 1/2 cup - add a little at a time to desired consistency and it will thicken more as it cools, so may need to add more after preparing the rest of sandwich. Add the cheese and nutmeg, stir until cheese is melted. Set aside.
  • 3
Toast muffins and place on an oven proof plate or plates. Roll up each slice of turkey that you cut in half and place a roll on each muffin.
  • 4
Add a slice of tomato to each muffin. Salt and pepper.
  • 5
Preheat broiler. Stir sauce and if needs more milk add it now and heat back up. Evenly pour sauce over the muffins.
  • 6
Sprinkle each with cheese and place under broiler until cheese is melted.
  • 7
Remove from oven and crisscross with bacon. Sprinkle with paprika and sliced green onions. Salt and pepper again if desired. Serve immediately.
