Mmmmmmmmmm! I love Gyros! And since the closest place for Gyros around here is over an hour away...you got to make good yourself!

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground turkey
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 x large egg, lightly beaten
  • 1 tablespoon bread crumbs, dry
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, extra virgin
  • 4 whole - pita bread rounds
  • 1 cup cucumber, thinly sliced
  • 1 cup tomato, diced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley
  • TZATZIKI (CUCUMBER YOGURT) SAUCE:
  • 16 ounces greek yogurt, plain
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 medium cucumber, seeded, shredded, squeezed dry with paper towels
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil, extra virgin
  • 2 teaspoons dill, dried
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • - salt & pepper, to taste

How To Make grilled turkey gyros

  • Step 1
    MAKE TZATZIKI SAUCE: Combine the yogurt, sour cream, cucumber, lemon juice, vinegar, olive oil, dill & garlic in a large bowl. Season with salt & pepper. Cover with plastic wrap & chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours.
  • Step 2
    In a large bowl combine turkey, onion, egg, bread crumbs, garlic, coriander, cumin, 1/8 tsp salt & pepper; mix well. Shape mixture into 12 patties, flattening each to 1/2" thickness. Brush all with oil. Wrap pitas in foil.
  • Step 3
    GAS GRILL: Preheat grill; reduce heat to medium. Place patties & foil wrapped pitas on grill directly over heat, grill 3 minutes on each side.
  • Step 4
    Divide cucumber slices amoung pita rounds. Top each with 3 patties, tomato & parsley. Drizzle tzatziki over all & fold pitas around fillings & enjoy!
